For pet brands

Is your pet catalog ready for Amazon's 75-character title limit?

Pet listings carry more in the title than almost any other category - species, life stage, breed size, flavor, count and diet claims all at once. That makes the new cap bite harder here. Upload two reports for a free audit of your catalog.

1. Brand Analytics › Search Catalog Performance (CSV)
Where do I find this report?
  1. In Seller Central go to Menu › Brands › Brand Analytics, then open Search Catalog Performance (requires Brand Registry).
  2. Set Reporting range to Monthly and pick the last full month.
  3. Make sure the marketplace is United States.
  4. Click Download › CSV and upload the file here - don't edit it first.
2. Advertising › SP Search Term Impression Share (CSV)
Where do I find this report?
  1. In the Amazon Ads console go to Measurement & Reporting › Sponsored ads reports and click Create report.

  4. Run it, download the CSV, and upload it here as-is.

Takes about a minute. No commitment, and no call required. Your reports are stored securely and used to produce your audit and our follow-up recommendations.

Why the cap hits pet catalogs hardest

Every category loses characters on July 27. Pet brands lose more of the ones that were doing real work.

Four variation axes compete for the same 75 characters

A single dry food SKU can carry species, life stage, breed size, flavor and bag weight - before you get to the brand name. Apparel picks one size axis. Pet picks four, and shoppers filter on all of them.

Diet and health language is long, and it's how pet parents search

"Grain free", "limited ingredient", "sensitive stomach and skin", "hip and joint" - these are the phrases converting your traffic, and they're expensive in characters. Amazon's auto-rewrite has no way of knowing which one earns your sales.

Count and weight are purchase decisions, not detail

"24 Count", "12.5 lb", "Pack of 6" are why a shopper picks you over the identical listing below you. Dropped into Item Highlights, they stop doing that job in the search result.

Losing "for Cats" costs you the whole listing

Species and breed-size disambiguation is non-negotiable in pet. A rewrite that quietly drops it doesn't just rank worse - it puts you in front of the wrong shoppers and takes your return rate with it.

What a compliant pet title looks like

An illustrative example of the split - the search-critical phrases stay in the title, the rest moves to Item Highlights.

Before
Grain Free Dry Dog Food for Adult Dogs, Sensitive Stomach & Skin Formula, Real Salmon & Sweet Potato Recipe, Natural Limited Ingredient Diet, 24 lb Bag 151 chars
After · title
Grain Free Dry Dog Food | Sensitive Stomach & Skin | Salmon | 24 lb 67 chars
After · item highlights
Real salmon & sweet potato recipe | Natural limited ingredient diet | Adult dogs | 24 lb bag 92 chars

Kept: the product type, the diet claim, the protein and the bag weight - the phrases your search-term data shows people actually typing. Moved: recipe detail and positioning language. The audit above makes this call using your own search-term report rather than guesswork.

Questions pet brands are asking

When does the 75-character limit actually start?

July 27 2026. Amazon splits the product title into a 75-character title plus a separate Item Highlights field of up to 125 characters. Titles that exceed the cap get rewritten automatically.

What happens if I don't rewrite my pet listings myself?

Amazon does it for you. The problem isn't that the rewrite is bad in the abstract - it's that it has no view of which phrase in your title is carrying your conversions. If "Sensitive Stomach" or "for Cats" is the reason your buyers click, an automated trim has no reason to protect it. Doing the rewrite yourself is how you keep that decision.

Is pet treated differently to other categories?

No - there's no pet exemption. The reason pet brands feel it more is structural: pet titles carry more genuinely load-bearing information per character than most categories, so a fixed cap removes more that mattered.

Will I lose ranking if keywords drop out of the title?

Titles aren't the only place Amazon reads relevance from. Item Highlights is searchable too, and backend search terms, bullets and A+ content all contribute. But the title carries the most weight and it's the only one the shopper reads in the search result, so it drives click-through as well as indexing. That's why this audit ranks your titles by the search sales sitting behind them rather than just by character count.

Why do you need two reports?

The Search Catalog Performance export tells us your titles and what each ASIN earns from search. The SP Search Term Impression Share report tells us which actual search terms are driving it. Together they let the audit keep the phrases with evidence behind them instead of guessing which words look important.

Is the audit really free, and what happens to my data?

Free, and you get your top five titles rewritten on the page before any email is asked for. Your reports are stored securely and used to produce your audit and our follow-up recommendations. Generating the rewrites means your titles pass through our AI and email providers; we don't sell or publish your data. If you'd rather talk it through, our pet brand team works on this daily.
